Good Morning

I finished the cards I was working on Monday in time for my class last night. I had a great time and got lots of ideas. We also made 4 very pretty cards.

Here are my cards:
To You And Yours Too stamp set from Stampin'Up

Right now, I'm supposed to be packing some quilting projects to take with me during a visit with a friend for the next few days. But I'm procrastinating again. I've painted my nails, watched a movie, and now writing a blog post lol. I think its because I have to make decisions and I don't do that very easily.

I'm not sure when I will write next since I will be away.
Have a Quilty Day
Good Morning All

How has your summer been? Mine has been very nice. My family and I have camped a LOT. And all the places we went to were wonderful. Have no complaints about any of the campsites.

My daughter is finally in Grade 1 which means both of my kids will be full time this year. I'm so excited. And I have so many hopes for the new school year. I remember feeling like this last year and I didn't accomplish what I had expected. This year will be different I think as I have a few more support systems in place to help me stay on goal.

What about you? Do you make new school year resolutions?

Yesterday and today I'm working on Christmas Cards....oh was that a bad word? LOL Currently, I'm a Stampin'Up Demonstrator (hobby) and I'm attending a meeting at my upline's home. I'm participating in a swap for Christmas Cards. And of course, I'm leaving the job till last minute. I still haven't decided exactly what I'll make but the ideas are starting to solidify in my brain.

Do you make cards? or scrapbook?

Here is my desk as I was heading to bed:

I'm using the stamp set To You and Yours Too (Holiday Mini 2015) and the Perfect Pines Framelit Dies.
Mine has been very nice and somewhat productive.

A few days ago, I came across these Project Printables through another blog that I follow. I have seen a few others on the internet but haven't liked all the information or format of the printables. Upon looking at these ones, I felt that I could easily use them and it would contain all the information that I would want to have on the sheets. It did take me a while to print off the sheets. I was having issues with opening the doc files in Firefox, so I ended up opening the files from Internet Explorer and then I also forgot to remove the title field so I could add my own titles. So I had to stop the printing and edit the file and then print again. I believe I printed 15 copies of the individual project templates. I know that I probably have at least 60 projects or material for projects in my home that I should make reference too, but I thought I would just start with a few. I also thought I would only need one summary page and that would last me for the year but as I was writing out some of my projects this am. I thought to myself, Self, you should really get a lot of these checked off during February and then you can start a fresh one for March. It would help you use up some stash and then it would be easier to organize and change your sewing room around like you are wanting.

My hubby took my kids swimming today which gave me time to concentrate on my new system. So as soon as they left, I headed downstairs to get a move on things. And I made sure not to turn on the TV as it is such a time sucker for me. I went though my emails to record the BOM's I would like to participate in this year and recorded them on the project sheets. I also printed what patterns I could for the BOM. And I found a new binder for my project sheets. I think I wrote up 6 projects. I have 3 charity quilts from my guild to longarm and bind. So I just included those in my summary page, I didn't write up individual sheets on those. But it will feel good to get them finished, out of my house, and a check mark on the page ;)

After I got bored of writing, I went into my sewing room. I haven't been in there for a long time. I think the last time was to make a comfort block for a friend. I've been taking my quilting away from the house, to either a friend's house or to our guild. I feel guilty when I go into my sewing room because there is so many other things that need to get finished. I don't feel guilty when I go away, because that is what I'm supposed to be doing. But when I go downstairs, my hubby thinks (or I'm thinking my husband's thinking) that I'm getting paperwork finished. And when I come upstairs with quilting finished, he seems shocked that's what I was doing. So hence the guilt for the next time.

I started clearing off a table and shelves that I'm taking out of my room with the new organization. Which lead me to find almost finished projects. One of them being a Halloween Wall Hanging. I finished appliquéing it. Now it needs to be quilted and bound. When I appliquéd it, I layered batting and muslin to help with stabilization. I've been hemming and hawing about leaving all the layers on when I quilt it, or should I cut away the muslin, to help with puffing up the appliquéd pieces during quilting. Its been 3 months since the top was finished and still sitting there. Decision making is the real deterrent in finishing projects for me. So today I bit the bullet and cut away the muslin. It is all ready to be loaded onto my longarm.

Now my next deterrent is my longarm. I'm scared of it lol. Actually I'm scared of the maintenance that I've been told it needs. I'm quite nervous to oil and WD40 it. I've only done it 4 times. I know its not a big deal and the more I do it, then easier it will be but my brain is not there yet.

Is there anything that deters you from finishing things?

Here is my top ready for quilting.

I'm hoping I will be able to show a finished Wall Hanging to you guys tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Have a quilty day!
Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-74084688061490781222015-01-02T12:00:00.000-08:002015-01-02T12:00:00.559-08:00First Day for Resolutions

Happy New Year!

I'm posting this later than I wanted. But I finally got to my computer. I had such big plans for today and didn't get even half of what I wanted finished. I was really tired, so I laid down for a short nap and it ended up being 3.5 hours. And the rest of the day was spent with my husband and kids. We had a really nice day. I've heard it said before - What you do on January 1 is what you will do for the rest of the year. I was hoping to do a little bit of everything today so that my year can involve everything LOL.

I've been thinking of New Year's Resolutions today. And I think I come up with a few. I also listened to Sandy from Quilting..For the Rest of Us podcast about her 2015 Quilty Resolution Challenge while I walked the dog tonight and got a few other ideas.

First resolution:
Focus on my health.
I will attend a weekly Weight Watcher meeting
Get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day
Go to sleep before midnight

Second resolution:
To declutter my house
Throw out or give away at least one thing every day or
do at least 5 minutes of reorganizing every day.

Third resolution:
Complete my 15 min per day goals.
Will create a checklist that I can mark off daily to help keep on track.

Fourth resolution: (this one is based on Sandy's challenge)
Work on writing quilt patterns

Fifth resolution:
Consistently write and post blog posts
Post at least once a week

What about you? Have you made any resolutions?

Have a good night and a Happy 2015!
Good Evening Everyone

How are you doing the day before Halloween? Are you doing anything special? Some family and friends are meeting at my house and then we will be taking the kids around the neighbourhood. My Hubby decorated more than previous years. The kids are so excited.

I tried to post a picture of my family dressed for a costume party to this post but I wasn't able to, so I put it in another post. We had so much fun and some of the costumes were so amazing. I couldn't beleive some of them.

I'm trying to get a Halloween wall hanging finished by tomorrow. Here is it on my design wall:

I had to decide if I was going to applique the pieces with my domestic machine or my longarm. I decided I wanted a satin stitch not a straight stitch so I will be using my domestic. As soon as I get this posted, back to my machine I go.

Have you made anything for Halloween this year?

Have a great crafty day!

After months of having my millenium long arm set up I will be able to work my machine. The first thing I put on machine was a practice sandwich and I pinned it on. It took me a long time to figure out how to do that. I've only been taught with leader grips.

I purchased leader grips for my machine at the end of July and I'm finally attaching them to my canvas rollers. It took me three times to fold over the csnvas to make a casing for the leader grips. I have successfully completed attaching the leadergrips to one of my rollers. Working on the second one and it will definitely go faster then the first one.

I folded over 1 inch on the canvas and I sewed a quarter inch seam allowance using my hopping foot for a guide. Here is a picture showing how i'm sewing my casing.

I used the clips on the side of my table to hold my canvas place while i sewed down the roller.

It was hard to find information on the web showing how to make the casing for the leader grips. I was quite nervous but then I realised I just had to use my seam ripper if i made a mistake. Lol. Took a lot of the fear away. Do you get anxious about the next step in a project and hold off taking that step? I seem to do that a lot and I know it would just be faster to jump in then to keep stressing about it.

I purchased a new pantograph for my machine last week as I took 3 charity tops to quilt for my guild. I will also use the same pantograph on a quilt for a friend. I told her by the time I do her quilt I'll be a pro.

What are you working on this sunday afternoon?

Have a great day!
Good Day All

Hope you have been enjoying your summer so far. Its been very nice in my neck of the woods, which translates to not much time spent doing crafty things.
But I think I will be playing more than usual as I finally got my Millie. Its been over a year since I decided on a Millenium. It took that long to get hubby on board and even then, I ordered it without the basement being ready. I put a deadline of either the dollar being at $0.95 or my 40th birthday. We hit my birthday before the dollar came up.

I received my boxes last Wednesday. Sadly some of the boxes were damaged. I had an appointment for installation scheduled for this Wednesday in case we had problems and couldn't figure it out ourselves. With the damages to the boxes and some pieces, I didn't feel comfortable putting the table and machine together so I waited for the appointment. I thought I would go crazy with the waiting but I did pretty good. We were able to put together my longarm as it seems like almost all the damage is cosmetic. Now I just have to figure out with APQS, the best course of action from here. They have been so nice and helpful with these issues. Great company.

I finally got a chance to play on the longarm around 9:30 last night. I think it was around 1:30 when I had all three pieces loaded correctly and it threaded and bobbin in. At that time of night, I wasn't sure if I should go to bed or try to play. I decided to baste down my edges and subdivide my fabric for playing. I finally dragged myself up last night at 3:30. Surprising, I'm not really tired today (Yet LOL)

I ordered leadergrips but they haven't come in yet, which meant I had to pin my layers on. I have only ever used leadergrips when longarming, so it was a lot of research and trial and error. I think I had to repin at least 3 times. :) Usually I would miss placing the canvas over or under a roller. I think I had a huge smile on my face when I finally it all attached.

This afternoon, I finally played a bit with free-motion. I started off doing curls but ended up doing clamshells (think that's what its called). I think they look pretty good. Any time I've tried doing them on paper, I would get caught in corners. There are only a few places where I don't like what I did, but overall, I'm pretty excited with my results.

I enrolled in Angela Walters Dot-to-Dot Quilting class on Craftsy. I might spend some time today making the quilt top she designed for the class. Its a rainy day, which means I let my kids have a TV day. They haven't had one since school let out.

Have a great day!
Thought I should get it out before heading to bed to see if you will have any insight or suggestions.

My little girl has a little friend (4 yrs old) that was just diagnosed with Stomach Cancer. It has been a sad week for us. I haven't told DD of the extent of her little friend being sick in the hospital. I keep putting myself in his Mom's shoes and almost get panic attacks. And then I think, I'm not even her - How is she doing it???? So I've been praying and thinking positive thoughts for the family. I would appreciate if you would also keep them in your thoughts and prayers even though you don't know them.

I knew I wanted to make the little guy a comfort quilt but wasn't sure what to make, posted it on Twitter and almost as soon as I pressed Tweet, I thought of I Spy quilts. I put a request out to my friends IRL and on-line for I Spy squares. I think I was given more than 40 fabrics!! It is great how giving and caring quilters are.

My daughter and I looked though the internet for samples of I Spy quilts and found so many wonderful patterns. I really liked one but realized I don't have the time to make such a complicated one. And a friend suggested do basic with sashing and she is a very smart friend. So I've decided on what type of quilt and the style of quilt, now I need to decide on the colours of the sashing and cornerstones. The little guys favourite colours are red and rainbow.
One thought is grey sashing with red cornerstones (didn't want black as thought too harsh)
I like the look of white sashing but nervous of it showing dirt??
Then my next thought is having each row a different colour following the rainbow colours.

Here are most of my blocks, please tell me what you would do.

Have a good night everyone, great tomorrow and if you have kids, give them an extra squeeze.

Have a Crafty Day
Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-90140569657257647482014-05-28T09:08:00.000-07:002014-05-28T09:08:00.500-07:001st Weekend Class

We have a foster puppy that loves to bark at other dogs. And her bark sounds mean and scary even though she only wants to play. We purchased a citronella dog collar that worked well on a walk but not so much in our truck. This morning I was looking for the collar so that the pup could come with us to school but I could not find it. Hubby put it away. So we went to school without it. And I'm sure you can figure out how quickly I found it when we got home LOL.
After settling my daughter, I came downstairs to work. I have a lot due last week, next week, and in a month. So what do I do, play with my scraps. What is it we are called, ProCraftinators. :)

Lately, my cutting hasn't been as smooth as I like. Last week I changed a blade that I had changed within the last month and normally my blades can last up to 6 months. It did feel better but still not what I like. The mat I'm cutting on is one of my really expensive large mats and I can't buy a replacement one right now. And the sore spot is the place where I cut small pieces. While cutting my scraps this morning, I had the bright idea to use one of my smaller, cheaper mats on top of my large expensive one for scrap cutting. I think this is a good solution and wish I would have thought of it sooner, before I started to damage my mat. Do you have a separate place to cut scraps and large WOF cuts? I'd love to hear if you have had the same issue and what your solution is.
Quilting and Blogging.
This am we worked very effecently as a family cleaning the house. And just as we were finishing, my friend texted me to see if we wanted to hang. She has two boys that are very close in age to my little ones. So feeling good about clean house and knowing it, all of a sudden, got cold out, I invited them over. I even had time before they came to make some cookies. We enjoyed a few hours company and lunch. It was a really nice visit. The kids had lots of fun! Hubby made a great supper! It was just a really nice day!

A few days ago, I was web surfing for some ideas for a row robin that I'm doing with my guild and came across Scrap Basket Sunday hosted by Kim's Big Quilting Adventure. I felt a strong tug to look further into the linkup as scrap quilting is a passion and I feel that I don't spend much time playing as I would like.

So tonight, since its Sunday, I decided to get serious about playing along. Since I haven't had much time to get things organized to work on something big or structured in my scraps, I decided to work on ironing the four patches I've sewn for my Postage Stamp Quilt. I've been sewing the four patches as my leaders and enders in the last few months and am getting quite a pile that need to be ironed.

I figured that would be a great start and create momentum to keep up Scrap Basket Sunday. I'm hoping to be able to dedicate at least 15 minutes every Sunday to my scrap passion and then I might be able to produce something to show my friends and guild. I'm always talking about what I have planned but haven't come up with anything finished. Some people even save their scraps for me.

Hope you all have a wonderful evening!

Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-33507547773775073822014-01-02T23:56:00.001-08:002014-01-03T00:18:06.796-08:00Resolutions for 2014Good Evening All

Yesterday I talked about the things I tried to do during the day that I actually wanted to do all year. Today I thought I would talk about a few specifics.

Fitness Goals:
Run 5K on March 16.
Run 10K in May
Run a half marathon by the time I'm 40. I will be turning 40 on June 24.
To work toward the above goals, I want to walk at least 5K per day. Every second day, I would like to add a learn to run program during my walk.

I purchased a FitBit Flex in the fall that I use to record my steps. I've set my daily goals in FitBit to 10,000 steps, 5 miles, and 30 active minutes.

I also use MyFitnessPal to keep track of everything I eat. The nice thing about these two programs is that they are linked. So my intake calories to output calories are right there in either program.

Home Goals:
To go to bed at reasonable times which will help getting up with kids easier.
To keep home more organized and cleaned.

Work Goals:
To keep on top of paperwork and bookkeeping so that I'm not doing it all at year end.
I would love to be able to work a little bit every day to keep things up, but boy, do days fly.

Family Goals:
To spend more quality time on a daily basis with kids. I started reading the first Harry Potter book to my little guy tonight. He loves stories and I love to read so it should be a good connection.

Financial Goals:
To set up and follow our budget. A few years ago, I set up a budge system that worked very well for my husband and I. We were even able to purchase 3 vehicles without any loans. It was a great feeling. I would love for my husband to retire in 10 years and this will be the only way we will get there.

Blogging Goals:
To blog on a regular basis. I feel like I get on a roll and blog a lot and then go missing in action for long periods of time. I'm letting myself off the hook this year....I've always tried to have pictures for every post. This year not every one is going to have a picture.

Quilting:
To have at least 6 finishes this year.
To go on a fabric diet. I can only make things from my stash. I'm allowed to purchase fabric to finish a quilt. And the majority of the fabric for the item has to come from my stash. I can't buy 4 yards of fabric to use up 1 FQ. LOL
To finish 1 scrap quilt. Very excited for this one. I seem to get hung up on finishing things for the guild and giveaway projects and don't spend any time on the things I'm passionate about.

Cards:
To work on a stamp set every month. If I really like it, I can keep the set, if I don't, its being sold or given away. I think I have more than 500 stamp sets. Way too many to store especially since I don't do parties any more.

Social Goals:
To touch base with long-lost friends that I miss very much. Again time seems to disappear. I'm going to stop thinking that I'll call them tomorrow and just do it today.

I didn't realize how much I wanted to change for the upcoming year until I wrote this post. I'm ok if the goals need to be adjusted but I think this is a good start.

What about you? Have you made any resolutions/goals for the next 12 months? I would love to hear what you think?

Have a great evening
Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-12499776438557689452014-01-01T23:00:00.001-08:002014-01-01T23:05:30.254-08:00Happy New Year 2014Happy New Year Everyone.

Just a quick note to touch base. One of the quilting groups I'm a part of on Facebook had a post regarding the New Year. Whatever you are doing on the first day of the new year is what you will do for the rest of the year.

Today I participated in the Resolution Run 2014. A friend and I walked 5KM. It was a great time. We were nervous the weather was going to be too cold but it turned out to be a nice temperature for walking. It was -15C. My goal for this year is to run a half-marathon by the time I'm 40, which is in June.

Later in the afternoon, I got on the computer and cleaned up my emails. I'm always falling behind on cleaning out my inbox. I cleaned out almost 500 emails. Crazy! I would like to be better at that in the new year.

Then I spent a nice afternoon/evening with my family watching Harry Potter with a crackling fire.

I can't believe I'm craving another walk late this evening. But want to work on more things that I would like to accomplish during 2014. Which means I need to get some quilting done!

Have a great evening and a great New Year!!

Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-39653154844644393882013-11-26T23:11:00.001-08:002013-11-26T23:11:43.368-08:00Finally Finished after 2 yearsGood Evening all

My day has gone pretty good but am getting really tired....didn't get a nap today. They are forecasting another 20 cm of snow. Its a good thing I live in Alberta as I love snow. I'm getting excited about taking kids for skiing lessons again this winter. Last year, my kids and the neighbour kids took an hour private lesson. It was a great introduction to skiing. I've only skied 5 times in my life so it was an experience for me too. Myself and the other mom were allowed with the kids for a discounted rate. Someone should have been taking a video of my first attempt on the magic carpet. I'm sure it was quite the site! Trying to get my 3 year old on it without her or myself falling. Got her on and then its my turn. Oh My Goodness! I couldn't get my upper body forward, so I'm waving my arms with the poles that are supposed to be pointing down but slashing through the air to prevent myself from falling on my but. I think I finally got my balance halfway up the teaching hill LMAO. Can't wait to see how I'll do this year. :)
Yesterday I started cutting out my next project. I'm hoping to to be finished cutting the block pieces tonight. I won't cut the sashing and corner blocks until the blocks are put together.
Here are the pieces on my design wall.

I like purple but just don't play with it very often. This is a turning out to be a very springy quilt. I'm trying to get it finished so that I can enter the quilt into the Iron Quilter II competition at Missouri Star Quilt Co that's due November 30. Better get off the computer and get back to cutting.
Have a great night everyone!
Vicky K
- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-81884755100292008852013-11-21T01:28:00.001-08:002013-11-21T01:28:20.910-08:00WIP Row Robin #2Good Evening

I've been missing in action for a while because I was sicker than a dog for over a week. I had the worst cold and cough and could not stay awake for longer than an hour at a time. Went to doctor, got meds, feel better. But now my little girl is going on her 5th day of fever and cough. Taking her to the doctor tomorrow. Hope she gets better soon. When she's sick, she has to be near me and she won't sleep without me.

So I decided to join up with Freshly Pieced's WIP today. I'm having trouble adding the button tonight and will play around with that another day.

I've been working on the 2nd Row Robin for my quilting guild. I had lots of fun and frustration working on this row. The theme was Women's Intimate Apparel.

Here is the top that I received.

I was thinking of doing a row of shoes but when I reread the note from the creator, I figured it wasn't intimately appropriate. So I tossed all the designs I came up with for shoes and I must say, my runner was amazing. LOL

So here are some of my blocks during creation:

Its getting late here and I'm gonna have a busy day tomorrow. Hubby is out hunting again. I really wanted a whole day of quilting and playing in my room. But I was feeling bad for leaving kids alone. So I spent all morning and most of the afternoon with them. I got in about an hour after lunch. Its been a long time coming.

I'm back in the sewing room tonight for hopefully a few hours. It'll depend on when little girl comes on down. I had an awesome time with friends and family this year. Great memories. Both kids had parties at school and then my friend had a party for 12 kids and everyone had a blast. Then my niece, her husband and 18 month old kids met at our house with my friend and her kids and we headed out Trick or Treating. It was lots of fun for all to have so many walking together. And the weather was so nice. I feel like this was the first Halloween that I've been able to get into the festivities with my kids since my Mom passed away. Things are starting to settle down with the estate. Its been a long 2.5 years. I can't wait for Christmas! I even attempted to make eye balls from apples. They worked out pretty good but they aren't "Take to a Party" food. Kind of have to be eaten right away.

I've been working a lot in my sewing room the last few days but I can't show what I'm working on. I've been working on a Row Robin that I joined at the Fort Sask Quilting Guild and its a Secret. I know one of my readers are in the exchange with me so Mums the pictures LOL.

On October 30, I went to Sparrow Studio to quilt my son's quilt. It been sitting in my room, sandwiched, waiting for quilting for at least 2 years. My son is turning 7 at the end of November, so I figured I should get it finished while he still likes what's on the fabric. I picked a spider web panto. I think my little guy will love it!

I'm working on the binding now. I'm going to do a scrappy binding. It'll have the solid colours - Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and Orange. How long do you make your strips when doing a scrappy binding?

My kids and hubby will be back from gymnastics soon, so I need to get off the computer.

Have a great evening!

Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-32805364949490498482013-10-29T22:48:00.001-07:002013-10-29T22:48:58.299-07:00String Block Day 6 and final dayGood Evening All
Hope you've had a wonderful day. Mine was pretty good. I was able to accomplish a lot in my sewing room today. I finished taking the paper off all the string blocks. Now I just need to address and stuff the envelopes.

Here are all my blocks finished:

Pretty excited about them. I'm really liking this project. Can't wait until I receive all my blocks and can put them into a great quilt.

Tonight I still have to un-baste a quilt. I basted it before thinking/knowing I would be getting a longarm quilting machine. And tomorrow, I'm renting a longarm at Sparrow Studio so I can quilt it. Its a quilt for my little guy who turns 7 at the end of November. I figured I should get my act in gear as he won't be liking the theme soon. LOL This quilt has been a UFO for at least 1.5 years. It'll feel really nice to be finished it.

Here is a picture of my little guys quilt before I removed the pins.

I've been trying to figure out how I want to quilt it. Should I custom quilt it with machinery, should I just do fun free motion, or should I do a pantograph. This will be the 5th quilt I will be quilting using an APQS and I still feel like a real beginner. So I'm leaning toward a pantograph. I need to start somewhere to grow and I'm sure this is not going to be the last quilt I will be giving my little guy. The next one can have custom stuff done to it ;)

Oh and I thought I would tell you a funny story about last night before I sign off:

My little girl was, of course, still up when I went to bed last night. She crawled into bed with hubby and me. When she gets too awake at night, she will talk or sing to herself until she gets sleepy again. And I also like to read before going to bed. Lately I've been catching up on Facebook stuff before turning out the lights. So around 2 am, as my hubby is sleeping, my little girl starts singing quietly. I end up reading a post about Auto-Correct. I started laughing so hard, I just couldn't keep it in. All of a sudden, hubby is awake and worried about me because he thinks I'm crying. My daughter pipes in and says Mommy's laughing not crying. I'm can't talk because of laughing so hard and also kind of nervous to tell him that I'm reading Facebook and waking him up. One thing about my hubby - he likes his sleep in the night. Gets really grumpy if he gets woken up. Could you image soundly sleeping and then all of a sudden your daughter is singing and then you think your wife is crying. The poor guy LOL. He took it pretty well, even made a joke about it this evening. Its been a long time since I laughed that hard and it felt really good.

Have a good night everyone and hope you've had a laugh today.

Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-75476572402590062632013-10-29T00:33:00.001-07:002013-10-29T00:33:51.178-07:00String Block Day 5Good Evening

So I wasn't able to get into the sewing room yesterday. I got lazy and ended up staying upstairs watching TV and playing on Facebook. The evil time consumer. lol

As I was feeling lazy about yesterday, I made myself come downstairs tonight. It took a while to get motivated to cut the strip blocks but I finished them. I'm a procrastinator when it comes to cutting fabric. I'm thinking that's my biggest hurdle in quilting. And its not like I don't have enough fabric in my stash if I made a mistake. (wink) When I was first learning how to quilt, I miscut a few times (or should I say many times), so now when I buy fabric for a quilt, I usually buy an extra .25 meter. I have lots to spare in my room. Especially when I'm doing stash busting.

I learned something while cutting tonight - Include extra fabric past the edges of my foundation. It can/will shrink up with seam allowances.

I cut my paper foundations to the size of blocks required - 8.5". The first one I trimmed tonight, I used the paper as a guide. Trimmed all four sides. I then started trimming the second one the same way. And something made me stop and actually measure. Well, good thing I did. The paper foundation was 8.5 X 8.25. One side shrunk. I changed the way I trimmed and started using the measuring using the ruler.

So then I started debating with myself about removing paper first before trimming as it seems that the blocks will distort slightly after removing the papers. I decided to cut first and then just be really careful when taking off the paper. I looked at some of the other blocks that I received from my swap partners and it seemed like the blocks also got distorted in the mail. So I figured as the blocks are cut on the bias, its gonna be really hard for my partners to receive perfect blocks and to not worry so much. I'll do my best to send great blocks but I'm relieving the pressure of perfect.

Do you get stressed for perfection when quilting?

Here are some pictures of my night.

Before picture

The difference out in paper foundation

Here are all my cut blocks and the pile of scraps leftover. I'm excited to have more to add to my crumb block scraps.

As I didn't sew tonight, there's no new picture of my thread cone.

I guess I should get up to bed, its 1:30 am and my little girl came into my sewing room tonight for the 3rd time. Halloween is really getting to her, she won't sleep without me when she wakes in the middle of the night. We finally got her going to sleep on her own without too many issues.

Have a great night!
Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-77114952528098104232013-10-27T00:51:00.001-07:002013-10-27T00:51:00.408-07:00String Block Day 4Good Evening

I was able to get into my room again today. Yay!! Its been a good week when I get to play 2 days in a row without guilt.

I was able to finish sewing all the String Blocks.

Here is my pile of rough blocks all finished and on cutting mat to be trimmed down to size. I'll be cutting them down to 8.5".

I've been trying to use up the cone of thread on my machine before I change to Aurifil. It feels like its been taking forever that I've been working at this. For more motivation for blogging and seeing an empty cone, I've decided to take a picture of the cone after every sewing session. Ha ha, hope you don't get as sick as I am of this never ending thread.

Here is my cone at the end of day - October 26.

I might even be able to get into my sewing room again tomorrow as they are calling for snow tonight and tomorrow. It might be a pj day tomorrow.

Have a great night!
Vicky K

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1231878248161314464.post-63830659372201178792013-10-25T22:32:00.001-07:002013-10-25T22:32:59.811-07:00String Blocks Day 3Good Evening

I finally got down to my sewing room at 10:30 tonight. But better late than never ;)

Tonight I'm working on String Blocks for a swap I'm doing for the Just Us Quilters on Facebook. This is the first time that I'm making string blocks. We are using paper foundations for the blocks. The first day I worked on the blocks, it was a learning curve and exciting because it was new. The second night I was working on the blocks I started to get worried that the blocks were diverse enough and then started to not enjoy working on them. Right before I had to quit to go to bed, I realized it was a really quick way to make blocks and got excited about the blocks again. I mean, it should take me only another evening to finish all the blocks. I'm working on 20 blocks. That's really productive - 20 blocks in 4 evenings. I can't wait until I receive all the blocks from my partners. I think I've received about half of them already. I won't let myself take the blocks out of the envelopes until I have mine in the mail LOL. I looked at them but pulled out my will power to put them back and not on my design wall.

Here's my pile of fabrics and the pile of blocks started.

I gotta get back to my blocks - Have a great night everyone!

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Vicky Khttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14441116624710093143noreply@blogger.com0
